Powerful doctrines

I've been reading Alma's teachings on priesthood in Alma 13.  There are some startling things in there.  We underestimate the depth of doctrine preserved in the Book of Mormon.  Pre-earth life is unmistakably taught there.

Ordination to the high priesthood reckons from before the foundation of the earth.  Power in that priesthood is derived from heaven (as D&C 121 teaches).

These powerful doctrines are not even imagined by other faiths or traditions.  Among us it is hardly understood, and we possess the scriptures that teach it.

  1. Disclaimer: I could be wrong, but I wanted to share a comment. Open to correction. If we look at all the references of the word "doctrine" in the scriptures you will find the word..usually always singular. It seems that this word should not be plural if it is referring to the doctrine of Jesus Christ, but it is plural when referring to doctrines of men, false, strange.. or philosophies.
    Maybe it is just semantics..but is there a difference? I have thought that there is only ONE doctrine of Christ.. not multiple doctrines.

    Here are some examples of plural form, “doctrines” in scripture. (not to mention that we call our modern day scripture the ”DOCTRINE and Covenants”.. and not “DOCTRINES and Covenants”. It is actually a good topic for study and to do the research yourself and see how the form of the word is used is IMPORTANT!

    · 1 Tim. 4: 1, 6, 13, 16 “doctrines of devils;

    · Col. 2: 22 “doctrines of men?

    · Heb. 13: 9 “Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines”

    · 2 Ne. 3: 12: of false doctrines and laying down of contentions

    · D&C 46: 7: “ doctrines of devils”

    · JS-H 1: 19: “they teach for doctrines the commandments of men”
